Dear Yahoo!:
Why do some countries drive on the right side of the road and others the left?
Crash T. Dummy
Dear Crash:
A vacation to Great Britain involves good theater, interesting “food,” and at least one heart attack due to the whole “driving on the wrong side of the road” thing. So, why do Great Britain, Japan, India, and many others drive on one side when most countries do the opposite? Read on for an abbreviated explanation…

We say “abbreviated” because the actual history of this phenomenon is long enough to fill a graduate thesis. According to this page on World Standards, nearly all societies used to travel on the left side of the road. This made sense because life was a lot more violent back then. “Since most people are right-handed, swordsmen preferred to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an opponent.” Again, there are others reasons (including the different types of animal-drawn wagons), but near as we can tell, this is the main one.

As for why the United States and other countries drive on the other side of the road, perhaps we should blame Napoleon. France always drove on the right side of the road and as Napoleon conquered Europe, he allegedly “required the countries he conquered to conform to French practice.” Kind of a jerky thing to do, but there ya have it.

Today, many folks still drive on the left. According to World Standards, 34% of people drive on the left hand side of the road. And that means you should always follow your mother’s advice and look both ways.

Experts Believe Violence Could Accompany Internet’s Evolution

September 28, 2006

hey what do u expect? Its like the whole world information available on a click and few keystrokes. Only that Saudi Arabia & Iran have blocked some websites that this information is limited (but not totally unavailable) for bomb-making and bad stuff.

Experts Believe Violence Could Accompany Internet’s Evolution

Download the whole research findings (you’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader)

also the recent news that a 2002 Bali bombings death rowinmate communicated with Islamic militants on the internet while in prison to organize another deadly attack on the Indonesian resort island last year further proves that computers with net access can be used for everything.

Microsoft Reader

September 28, 2006

hey
I’ve been using Microsoft Reader for some time now. I think its better than normal e-reading. They did a good job of making the font large and the line spacing large enoguht that the eyes wont have to be squinted. I loved the color of the page. They madeit look like it was a paperback. it gives ebooks a look more like the real thing

the only thing I dont like is that u cant find any other compatible format for the books.

the University of Virginia also provides lots and lots of free DLable books

Free Books can be downloaded hereand here

Sudoku…Portable?? Yes!

September 27, 2006

Hey

I have loved Sudoku since the first time I played it. and when I found out that it was available for PC!, I was so happy. The PortableSudoku is a fantastic game. And I love the “Impossible” feature. It took me more than 5 man-hours to solve the impossible (or so I thought) but my damn foundation was 2 instead of 6. but it is still a fantastic game…

It has a save game feature which is also really cool. other features include:

  • Four difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard and Impossible)
  • Entry of possible solutions for empty boxes (hold down shift and a number from the standard number row, not the numeric keypad)
  • Automatic saving of your game on exit
  • “Check Game” feature to check your current work
  • “Solve Game” feature so you can see the solution to the current puzzle
  • Resizable interface, so you can make the numbers as large as you’d like…

It main page is Sudoku Portable 1.1.7 Released

Download (DL) and tell me what u think of it…
