`Italian ‘Writes’ 384-Page Book With His Cell Phone

July 31, 2007

this is amazing
the guy mustve had lots of time on his hand
his patience is to be commended
last night I sent 19 SMS with 6 ppl in abt 3 hrs . It was kinda chat environment
since I couldnt do anything else [was stuck on my bed trying to get sum sleep, abt 2 hrs b4 my normal KSA time] and that the power was out so that was my only option…
wwait…
yeah so after the 19 messages my thumb hurt soo much and my arms were shaking a little bit if I kept the cell higher
remember could sit up or would get in trouble
the guy had to plot a story, then have to keep his train of thought in line…
gr8 job man :)

Science fiction author Roberto Bernocco wrote an entire novel in his downtime using only his Nokia 6630 cell phone. In case you're not familiar with that model, it does not have a QWERTY keyboard. He used T9 to write the entire thing, which took him 17 weeks. It was recently published.

How to exit a conversation

How to exit a conversation

You stopped off for a two minute small-talk session with the boss/buddy/neighbor, they've yammered on for a 20 minute chat explosion, and you need to get out! Lifehack.org explains how you can wiggle yourself out of these hold-ups without offending the long-winded conversationalist. Here's how:

There are 3 reasons you might stay in a conversation that you want to leave:

You're too polite – Many of us feel like it's rude to leave someone alone after talking to them for a few minutes. It isn't. People have things to do, and talking is just talking. As long as you excuse yourself politely, your exit will be comfortable.

You're afraid or lazy – Being in a conversation can be comforting and you might stick it out just because it's easier than heading out on your own into the 'unknown'. This isn't true and you might be selling your time short if you settle.

You don't know what else to do – Similar to the previous, this is counting on your lack of imagination. There is always something else to do and someone else to talk to. Grab a drink or hit the toilet and then find a friend or another contact.

Mozilla admits Firefox is flawed just like IE

July 24, 2007

now what am I supposed to say…??? WTF???
all this was going to happen anyway since they [the virus writers, spammers, etc] always go aftrer what most ppl are using…
but c'mon atleast give the news outright
Mozilla's chief security officer admitted Monday that the highly public scuffle with Microsoft over an IE hole was for the birds, since the same hole exists in Firefox as well.

July 23, 2007 (Computerworld) — In a public mea culpa, Mozilla Corp.'s chief security officer acknowledged today that Firefox includes the same flaw that the company called a "critical vulnerability" in Internet Explorer during a two-week ruckus over responsibility for a Windows zero-day bug.

"Over the weekend, we learned about a new scenario that identifies ways that Firefox could also be used as the entry point," said Window Snyder of Mozilla. "While browsing with Firefox, a specially crafted URL could potentially be used to send bad data to another application.

"We thought this was just a problem with IE," Snyder continued. "It turns out, it is a problem with Firefox as well."

The argument over responsibility for a flaw that involved both IE and Firefox began two weeks ago, when Danish researcher Thor Larholm argued that IE contained an input validation bug that passes potentially malicious URLs to other applications. Larholm called out Firefox's "firefoxurl://" protocol as one that IE mishandled. He staked out the position that IE was to blame, while other security experts said it was Firefox's fault.

As fingers pointed, Mozilla patched the IE-Firefox interaction bug by releasing an update, Version 2.0.0.5. Even so, Snyder and others continued to argue that IE was the problem. " Microsoft needs to patch Internet Explorer," Snyder said last Wednesday. That same day, Asa Dotzler, director of community development, contrasted what he said were the differences between Microsoft and Mozilla on the bug. "We think it's Firefox's job to ensure that users are protected from malicious Web sites when they're surfing the Web in Firefox. Apparently, Microsoft doesn't think the same for IE," Dotzler said then .
